Why does vitiligo only turn part of the body white?
The amount of white patches signifies the amount of melanocytes the body mistakenly views as pathogens and kills off. For some vitiligo patients, their entire body turns white. This means that the body is attacking melanocytes all over their body. For others, only some patches of skin turn white. My sister has vitiligo on her face and neck. This means that her body is attacking the melanocytes only in her face and neck.
Does vitiligo affect some races/ethnicities more than others?
You can find a detailed answer to this question on my What is Vitiligo page. Thanks!
